
Humic substances have been used to remediate soil from hydrocarbon and salt contamination. Hydrocarbons in fractured rocks can be flushed out when humic substances are added to the groundwater (groundwater to be treated somewhere else). Toxicity of mine tailings is reduced and its soil texture is improved due to the presence of humic. Humic substances in waste help reducing odor and enhance the digestion of sludge.
BlackEarth products add available carbon, improve soil texture and enhance soil water retention. Humic by itself also enhances living cell’s metabolism and growth. Enhanced growth of microorganisms accelerates the remediation of hydrocarbons and other organic based pollutants in soil. Our products also solubalize hydrocarbons in water phase, making it easier to be utilized by microorganisms, or to be flushed out of the system (i.e. fractured rocks) and treated somewhere else. Our products can be used as an electron shuttle for the activity of microorganisms in the anaerobic system. BlackEarth products also enhance the growth of microorganisms in waste. The breakdown of digestible organics is therefore accelerated. The increased activity of microorganisms also results in the reduction of odor in lagoons and manure pits.

This phytoremediation concept has been a success story to tackle hydrocarbon and salt contaminations in soil. Our product is also applied to reduce toxicity in mine tailings due to their ability to chelate metals. BlackEarth products when combined with ammonia and certain minerals, helps the stability and compaction of soil. This is beneficial when temporary use of the area is required.
